Started this, still under construction:
The woods were always a great place where Steve could get away from people. There were no motors, no lights, except for the moon and stars, and no one to make fun of him. It was also where he felt most at home. For about a few weeks, Steve had kept being pulled to the woods to be away from all the noice and pollution of the city. He had always been a city boy, being born, raised, and lives there. But now he feels like that was all a live. He had chosen this spot the first time he came to the forest, looking for his lost lab, Fenrir. He had ran out of the car, when Steve had stoped to take a leak at the rangers lookout, and had followed his path that was carved in the dead leaves of fall. To this exact spot. It seemed almost perfect. The lake was right here, which, being in a provincial park, had no cottagers on it, and this end was too shallow for electric boats. As he set up his tent, Steve could hear the sounds of nature calling out for all to hear. He was placing the last peg in the ground to nail down the tent, when a low howl came across the lake. There was a warning that wolves were being reintroduced into the area, but the rangers had assures him that as long as he kept his food in airtight containers and out of reach, in a tree, there should be no problem from the local wild life, but just to be safe, he was given a walky-talky to call if any should happen. After setting up his tent, Steve went and opened his rupsack and took out some beef jerky. Placing it in his teeth, he tore at it, and took a big slab of salted beef and chewed on it. He took the other end of his jerky and threw it to Fenrir, who was on the ground, resting. He got up in a flash and caught it in mid air. As he chew, Steve looked out at the lake and was movement on the other side. Standing up, he saw that there was quite a bit of movement, but nothing sturred. The trees were still, but the ground kept dissipearing and reapearing in the dusk light. As he continued to stare, he caught a flash of something in the setting sunlight. There it was again. Then, something on the other side of the lake stopped moving, as if it knew it was being watched. Steve could make out its body vaguely. On all fours, it seemed hunched over, and its head vertical, compared to most animals, whos is more horizantal. Suddenly, it slowly turned it head and the eyes, catching the last bit of light left in the day shown with big yellow eyes seem to penetrate Steve to the bones. Blackness ensued....

the rest of the story will be in short posts, enjoy:
The next thing Steve remembered was a magestic voice coming from his left and an acheing in his head that felt as if a train had gone over his head, "So, the great, brave man wakes?" As his eyes slowly opened, he could see bluringly, the moon directly overhead. He fumbled around for his glasses, "Oh, you may not want those. you seem to have had a terrible headache or something, it may just get worse with the adding of glasses." Her voice didn't sound right, it just seem to come out of a differrent mouth than ussual. Sitting up on his side, Steve looked over to his mysterious savior, and realized that there was a fire going. Looking around he saw her sitting just on the outside of ring of light. She was sitting on something, mabye crouching, and seemed to be widdling something with a knife. From what he could see, she was in a brown/grey cloak and hood that covered her entire body. Suddenly, he realized that something warm was up against his side. Turning over, painfully, slowly, he realized that Fenrir was beside him, but he had his ears down and tail down under him. Probably because he was worried about Steve. Laying back down, he realized that the moon, quarter cresent, was directly over him, but the fire kept most of the star at bay. "You shouldn't really be moving about so much either, man. Your injuries may get worse." That voice still didn't seem right to Steve, but sudden pain took that thought right out of his mind. Looking down at his leg, Steve realized that his leg was in a mud wrap with herbs and other bits of litter on it. Reaching down to wipe it , something stoped him. The woman's hand had came down and grabed his arm so fast, he hadnt heard her move. "It seems you sparined your leg falling. Those are natural healing herbs that I know of, don't touch them, unless you want to make it worse." She had the most beautiful blue-green eyes. Realizing that she was still holding his arm and becoming aware of his stare, she turned her head and let go, "Sorry, my fault." Moving back to her seat/kneeling place, she said, "I'm sorry again, my name is Shelby. I was walking by and found you lieing there. Your leg hit a rock when landing and I came and try to wake you up, but you were out like a dead firefly..." Face reddening, Shelby turned away even further and said, "I've been living out here for sometime and I haven't been able to talk to many people." "It's alright, I understand. Back in the city, I was not a very popular person, and everyone seem to avoid me. Even my friends avoided me most of the time. By the way, my name is Steve." He smiled kindly at the back of her head and she turned her head slowly, her eyes pearing out if the darkness of her hood. Strange, thought Steve, those eyes seem to be crystal...all of a sudden, Steve was aware of a numbing sensation climbing his leg, from his earthen bandage. He let out an small gasp. "Ahhh, I see the wrap has started to take effect." Her soft, strange voice seemingly getting farther away as the numbing grew. "What's ha..." "Shh, sh, sh. Quiet. Sleep now, allow your mind to wander and sleep. I will see you tommorow." As she crouched over Steve's sleeping body, Shelby sheeved her hand knife and wrapped the necklace she had made around his neck, made from wolves teeth that had fallen out when they were feasting, and hide of a deer that she had killed. She reached over his body for the water skin bag she had filled and Fenrir started to growl at her. Growling at the domesticated wolf, she said out of her oddly shaped mouth "What? Don't you want your master to get better? He needs water for now. If you want him to die, I'll leave now." Fenrir lowered his head to his paws, sighing. How he had let that human get near his friend, not master, and not able to hear her, was beyond him. Also, how had he understand each other so well?

Running, Shadowrunner ran like the wind, like he had ever since he was born. He was born to run and nothing could stop him. His mate ran beside him, Chip had a piece of her ear missing since she was born. As they ran, Shadowrunner eyed the piece of rope that hung around both their necks, with wolven teeth that had came out of each other's mouths that they had collected. It was their mate rope, the rope that signified that they were mated. As they ran along the barren winter ground, passing tall trees whos leaves had fallen of during the previous couple of moon cycles. Now the ground was packed down with snow, leaving behind light paw marks made by him and his mate. Nothing could ever stop his love runs with Chip, nothing....

"...I can sence it in him, he has the aura around him, I will find it in him. I think I-" Turning her head quickly, Shelby stopped her verbal narritive, and saw that Steve was waking. She threw the charcoal she was writing with, and her book into her side pouch under her cloak, covered it up agian with the cloak. She threw her hood on, but not before Steve could see the back of her gourgous short blonde hair that was usually hid under the cloaks hood. It was night again, and the numbing had gone down to the bandage area agian. Shelby was sitting in her same place that she usually sat/squated in. Again her eyes, catching the light from the re-light fire, shown bright, and he could make her out better than last night. I might have just been because the headache was gone. "You know, even if I don't have my glasses on, I can still tell that you shouldn't hide your hair like that, or your face. I'm sure it's beautiful," he said as he try to sit upright. Fenrir sat up beside him and looked at him and licked his face. "Haha, it's nice to see you too, boy." Suddenly, Steve felt something that Fenrir hit when he was licking him. Looking down, he found a necklace that had teeth hanging off of them. What kind, he had no idea, only that they were carnivoire teeth. As he fingured the teeth, Shelby piped up, "Thats for you, so that you don't forget me when I leave." "Oh," Steve said, chestfallen, "I was thinking that you might want to come back to the city with me." Eyes widening, Shelby suddenly got frighten, "I can never do that, my place is here, I look after this forest." "How long have you been at this?" "I can't remember, I lost the number of days, and no longer care. I left the city for here in 1999." "What? Thats like five years you've been out here! Almost six now! How did you servive all these years?" "Liviving of the land, learning to hunt, know, stuff like that." "If you've been out here for so long, have you noticed any crouched over, four legged animals out here?" "No." "That's it, just no? I thought you would have more to say." "I said NO!" She said heatedly, her eyes seemed to burn lighter with the fire, voice went deeper, and here cloak started to expand "if I said no, then NO!" As if realizing what just happened, she quickly turned away and her cloak fell loose again. She hunched over and said, "Eat the berries I got you. And some of that salted meat you have if you feel up to it." Looking over to his right, he saw that there were a bowl of wood filled with fresh wild blueberries and his beef jerky beside it. Steve popped the blueberries into his mouth and tryed to chew some of the jerky. Although a little painfull to chew, it felt good to eat something. As his energy came back, he got up on his good leg and leaned against the closest tree, or at least he tried to. With Fenrir right ontop of him and his bad leg not being able to hold much pressure, it was difficult. He limped to his bag and started to dig in it. "What are you doing?" Shelby asked as she turned around, eyes once again calm green-blue again. "Looking for the walky-talky-" "Wakie-takie" "-that I got at the rangers cabin before I went out on this trip. It will take them about a day to find me, since they dont even know where this is, plus they have to walk her, since nothing but a rowboat will get here and it'll take longer than walking here. Would you like to sleep in a sleeping bag tonight? I take it you haven't had a civilized sleep for six years." "Civilized? I find it more relaxing to sleep under a blanket of stars, thank you." A long silence passed after that. Steve kind of moved around the camp, colecting this before he went to bed, since he was still sleepy even after over a day of sleeping. Before climbing into his tent, he found his walky-talky and radiod the rangers. He was disappointed to find out that they wouldn't be able to start looking in the morning, and even then it might take some time to look. He assured them that he would be alright for that long, and bidded them a good night. He climbed into the tent, and undressed, carefull not to hit the earthy bandage, and climbed into his sleeping bag, with his sprained leg hanging out the side. As he lay there, a low howl over took the lake-side. As he fell asleep to the call of the wolves. He chuckled to himself. He thought he could make out words passing through the howl.

As Steve climbed into the tent, Fenrir watched his friend climb into the fake, plastic home. What humans see in wanting to be in inclosed places was beyond him. Suddenly, Fenrir noticed the wierd human that stayed outside. She started to lower her hood and look up to the moon. Looking at her face, Fenrir eyes widen with fright at what the female human's face looked like. He quickly ran for the closest tree and climbed into the roots, where there was just enough room for him to fit. A low howl eminated somewhere close to Fenrir, but he was to afraid to look where it came from. As the howl ended, Steve was still awake, feeling a close relationship with nature, he ajusted his body to be confortable in his sleeping bag. "You know," How does she know I'm awake? Steve thought, "you have something close to nature that not many people have." "What do you mean?" Steve mumbled through a yawn "Do you wonder why you keep coming back here? I've seen you come here for the past few weeks. I know you feel it." "What are you talking about? Have you been stalking me?" "Ummm, not really. Everytime you entered this forest, I could sence your pressence. You see, I have it to. A close connection to nature, its hard for me to explain. I will show you in the morning what I mean." Steve didn't sleep a wink, trying to figure out what Shelby ment by it all. Att he did was stare at the top of his tent until the rising sun slowly lit up his tent.

As Steve sat there, in his tent, he heard animals, it could only be animals, walking around outside. He thought that he could sence only one, or two, but fear told him differently. Fear told him that there could be ten animals out there. As he closed his eyes, Steve focused on the sounds. The sounds of footprints being made. Of the brushing of fur up against the vinyl of the tent. Truthfully, he could have gone through ten pairs of pants, but he suppressed all thought like that. He listened to the sniffing of the animals. Then he realized that there was only one. Steve could have burst out laughing right there, but there was still the fear of what kind of animal it was. Relief flooded him as if fear could keep a grip much less paralyze him. It was time to go see the world in what it really was. It was time to see it with eyes uncloudd by human thoughts. He started to unzip the tent. "Need any help getting out?" Steve jumped back a couple of feet. Shelby was right behind the tent flap. She unzipped the tent flap the rest of the way, and held out a hand. Inspecting the back of it, Steve saw that it was normal than his, even if it was a little bit more hairier. "I'm sorry, Steve, I can't seem to your glasses, something must have taken them in the night." Steve gave a small sigh. "Don't worry, I can get a new pair when I get back to the city." Suddenly, Steve realized that Shelby's hood was down. Her face wasn't human at all, excpet for her eyes, which were a starleing blue-green. Instead of a mouth, there was a muzzle of golden-brown. Her ears were canine in shape and pointing up, but a piece was missing from her right ear. She had a fine covering of golden-brown fur all over and the short "hair" was acually a mane that covers her entire neck. "Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!" Steve yelled as he scrambled backwards, ignoring the blinding pain comming from his leg. "No, stop! It all right!" Now Steve realized why her voice was wierd, it was coming out of her muzzle, not made entirely for human language. She held out her hand and Steve realized that her hand had pads on them making circles on them making spaces where her joints were. Her nails were also longer for a normal humans, but Steve thought that was because she had been out here for so long. Sighing, Shelby steped back and said, "I thought you might react this way. I'm sorry, I should have slowly showed you. Stop cowering, you worsen your leg! I should tell you what this is." Placing her hood up agian, Shelby backed away even further. Adjusting his leg so that it didn't hurt much, he crawled out of his tent and continued over to his bag. Picking up his walky-talky, he realized that the back had been shredded. Staring at Shelby's back, he yell, "What the f**k did you do this for!?!? And what is this f**king thing on my leg, is it really doing good? And was it you that was across the lake the other day? And what the hell are you doing here? and..." "Oh, Shut up!" she said, slowly tuning slightly and growled at him. That stopped him and froze him to hte spot. "Five years ago, I found out that I had an attraction to this spot. If you remember, the rangers were intorducing the wolves back into the wild then. I was getting into camping, and came exacly here to this spot to camp. Well, one night the wolves came to my camp and I was scared into shooting one." A tear slowly rolled down her long muzzle, "I only had one shot left and used it then. Then the pack cornered me, right where you are now, and they all just stood there. "It felt like years had passed as I cowered there. Then the pack widened and a one-eyed wolf came up to me. He stood there, staring, almost vibrating.I realized that he wasn't just standing there, but slowly changing. He turned into what you saw me as I am now. He changed into this half human, half wolf creature in front of me. you could have imagined how scared I was right then, first from the fear of being eaten, then the fear of the unknown, who was staring me right in the face right then." "Y....y...y..y.a, I th..th.ink I c..c.can relate" "I bet you can. Anyway after what he called shifting, he explained that he had once been human, like me, oncem but had a deep relationship with nature, he said something about having a wolf soul or something, that he decided to leave his home and family to run with nature. He said that the wolf I had killed was his mate, and that he had loved her so much. For killing her, I only got two choices: One, I live with them and run with nature and benefit the life of the pack, or two, be fed to the pack, letting the pack benefit from me. It took me a while to realize that I wouldn't be allowed back to my previous life. I choose to accept a life in the wild. As I ran woth the pack, my body started to change. My legs and body grew more buffer and hairier. My face changed and I grew a tail. My eye sight and ability to smell grew better, as well as my hearing. I became more aware of everything around me. I found it harder and harder to shift into my human side, but I realized that I didn't care anymore. THis cloak, bag and book is what is left of my humanity." "So it was the pack that I heard last night, around my tent?" "No, it was.. that's it, I cant stand it anymore, I'll just show you." Shelby flung off her cloak, revealing a crouching femine woman, who from the shoulders up, was wolf, but the lower half was human-like. She was covered in a golden-brown fur coat, with a tail comming from here lower back. She also had a rope around her waist, with a bag that Steve had saw the other night. As she stood up, Shelby towered over Steve by half his hight. Her legs were bent twice, like a wolves hind legs. She was one of the most beautiful creatures Steve had ever seen. Suddenly, Shelby slowly started to shrink and she lowered down to all fours. She also became more wolf-like by the second. In a minute, she was a wolf, grinning toothily, her full set of teeth seeming frightening, and yet lovely. Fingering his necklace that she had given him, he realized that they were hers. She changed back and crouched in one spot, with her hands grazing the ground. she was grinning at him, seeing if he would react. Steve sat there dumbfounded. He was that, or at least had the ability to become that? His mind was going through all the werewolf movies that he had seen. All of them showed the werewolves as evil, dark, always hungry, man-eating animals that were only killed with silver. Now he was staring, no, talking to one in the flesh. "So, that was you over on the other shore?" "Yes, your animal soul must have woken up when you saw me. That's why you fainted. It is too late to stop it, your body is already changing. If you noticed, your eyes can see better now than you did with your glasses. Am I not right?" Shocked, Steve realized that she was right. "And when your, earth medicine?, knocked me out, I had a dream of running as a wolf. What was that?" "Those are your wolf soul's previous memories. In them, you are reveiled your true name, your animal name. My human name is Shelby, my animal name is really Chip." "Hmm, that was the name of another wolf in my dream, but my name was Shadowrunner." At that, Shelby/Chip physically stiffened. She must have been the one in my dream. "And this necklace is... a mate rope?" Now Chip was visibly shaken, and her grin sliped and she lowered her sight. "I guess you found that out in your dream. I'm sorry, I didn't know what it was, all that I knew that there would be another person like me I would find, and was suppose to give this too. Really, I'm really attracted to you. You look so..." Shelby's looked really depressed or sadden, and her voice went low. Now Steve was confused. He limped over to Chip and layed an arm across her back. She stiffened even more from the touch, then relaxed. She looked over to Steve and gave a weak smile. "Will you come with me to meet my pack? Will you come to live at me?" Steve felt like he had been slaped in the face. "B.b.b.but, I have a job, and my parents will miss me, not to mention my friends." At that, the she-wolf lowered herself even lower. "I understand, but I must wanr you that if you leave, I won't come again. The pack only has a one time offer to join. Please if you go, I can't se you again." Tears were forming on the end of her pitch-black nose. She really cares for me! "Ok, if thats the problem, then I will stay. But we have a problem, there are rangers coming to look for me, what happens when they come?" Chips face suddenly brightened exponetionaly. She grinned crazily at him. "I know what to do."

"No, no sign of any human life yet!" Pat had been on the search for this 'Steve' for over the day. This part of the forest was suppose to be unreachable, but there was this one trail that he was sure that no one knew about. Better to check it just in case. As Pat went through the crack in the stone wall, which was only big enough for one man to go through, He came across the camp site that he had made over ten years ago. Only there was a camp set up here. The tent had been ripped to shreds, the back pack along with it, and the walky-talky that they supplied to campers. Shock crossed over Pat. In the middle of the camp, there was a place where a person had layed for a long time. It looked like the place was attacked, yet there was no blood or anything that resembled something like a human. Only tracks that looked like a canines. Pat then heard something coming from underneath a tree on the edge of the clearing. He went to see what it was, and found a golden lab. It was hiding uderneath the tree in its roots. "Hey there fella, come on out" The dog looked out and crawled out slowly. It was wimpering loudly. It came out and started to lick the ranger."Ok, ok, now where is your owner?" Pat then took his walky-talky out an radioed out for help. Just before he pressed the talk button, a low howl rang out across the lake, fallowed by a second one.
