Radagast Meaning: Tender of Beast Kind Maia/Ista Lifespan no known beginning or end
Radagast is one of the five Istari who came to Middle Earth in the first millenium of the Third Age to aid the people in their fight against Sauron. He was a Maia of Yavanna and apparently was sent to protect the birds, the beasts, and the plants. In Valinor, Radagast was known as Aiwendil. On Middle Earth, he is known as Radagast the Brown.
He took up his residence at Rhosgobel, located on border of Mirkwood forest between Carrock and the Old Forest Road. Radagast became so enamored of his animal and plant friends that he lost all sight of what he was sent to Middle-earth to facilitate, which was the resistance by the free peoples against Sauron. His final fate is unknown, but it is thought that he may have returned to Valinor.

"Radagast is , of course, a worthy Wizard, a master of shapes and changes of hue; and he has much lore of herbs and beasts, and birds are especially his friends." from FOTR, The Council of Elrond pg. 288
Just a little more on Radagast from Fellowship.
