I have read recently concerning the owl and its significance in terms of symbolism . It is associated with death and rebirth
Owl sees and knows the truth. It's ability to navigate through the darkest night and bring back nourishment for itself and others is the foundation of this essence. When you have lost your way, owl essence will guide you back to your proper path and wisdom.
This I feel is very much in tune with Namo(Mandos) I picture Namo having an owl perched on his shoulder.
Another thought concerning Namo and the Owl : Just as the Eagles are kindred spirits to Manwe , so are Owls kindred spirits to Namo...Indeed if there be some who argue that the Eagles of Manwe are of the Maiar, I would also add that the Owls of Namo are of the Maiar as well....

This is how I picture Namo : Long black hair with black leather clothing, no robes though. Pale white face with piercing blue eyes. On his shoulder perches a snow-white owl. His face is somber and melancholic. On his "throne" there are bats engraved and ornameneted with skulls with several of the skulls bearing white candles . This has been my vision of him. In terms of facial structure I have found a pic of the singer of the goth/metal band called Moonspell who resembles my vision of Namo remarkably www.all-pictures-photos.com/images/moonspell/moonspell-003-img.jpgLomelindo
